Following the dispute over conducting a separate entrance exam by NLSIU, the Consortium had decided to shift its Secretariat from Bangalore to the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. However, the Consortium has now intimated that its office has not yet been transferred to NALSAR, Hyderabad and it is hoped that “bygone will treated as bygone and NLSIU will continue to play meaningful role in strengthening the Consortium”.SC Quashes NLSIU’s Decision To Hold NLAT; Directs It To Admit Students Based On CLAT “NLSIU being the oldest National Law University has the special responsibility of mentoring and helping other NLUs though in terms of legal status all National Law Universities have an equal status,” the Consortium has said. It has also clarified that Prof Sudhir was never removed from his post of Secretary- Treasurer but was merely asked not to discharge his duties temporarily due to the conflict of interests between CLAT to be conducted by Consortium and NLAT conducted by the NLSIU. With the exam date approaching soon (on 28th September), the Consortium has assured that it is “fully prepared” to conduct CLAT and that NLSIU is an “integral part” of the same. NLSIU has also issued a statement, assuring that it will implement the Supreme Court’s order “in letter and spirit”. The press note further states: “The University, In consultation with its Governing Bodies. will take necessary steps to welcome a new batch of students to experience NLSIU’s unique and transformative educational experience. Ata Faculty Meeting held earlier today, the Faculty resolved that the University will do everything possible to respect its founding commitment to a Trimester based Academic Calendar and maintain the highest academic rigour and standards. These intense teaching and learning practices make NILSIU India’s best Law School.”NLSIU  has also assured that that they will initiate the refund of money (after deducting Rs.75 as processing charges) and the Students will receive it in 9-14 working days.SC Order The Consortium expressed its “increased faith” in the Indian Judicial system, as the Top Court recognised the NLU Consortium as the appropriate body to conduct admission test for the member national law universities including NLSIU. It said, “We have been arguing that CLAT as a test was conceived due to the Supreme Court’s intervention in 2006-2007. NLSIU has been denying it by asserting that there was no judicial order. Today our stand got vindicated as Supreme Court had included this point in its judgment. The Court has also mentioned the litigation of 2018 and subsequent meetings at MHRD, Government of India along with BCI and Vice-Chancellors of National Law Universities leading to the registration of the Consortium in 2019 at Bangalore. Now Supreme Court has discussed Consortium Bye-laws at length and has said relying on its earlier judgments that conducting admission test for several universities is in national interest and a student friendly initiative. The court has rejected the argument of consortium being a private body and acknowledged that it consists of statutory universities which had come together in larger public interest to improve legal education and conduct CLAT. Similarly NLSIU’s justification of Zero year has been rejected and the court has accepted our argument that there are several ways in which academic calendar can be suitably modified.”Next Storylast_img read more

Moyes relieved after Real Sociedad victory

first_imgManchester United manager David Moyes can heave a sigh of relief following his side’s 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad in the UEFA Champions League game played on Wednesday.Moyes was pleased that his Manchester United side managed to grind out a narrow 1-0 win over Real Sociedad at Old Trafford to move closer to a place in the Champions League knockout phase.DecisiveThe decisive goal came after two minutes, the hapless Inigo Martinez diverting into his own net after the excellent Wayne Rooney had struck the post. Both sides hit the woodwork thereafter, Sociedad on two occasions, but unlike in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Southampton, United were spared the pain of shipping a late equaliser.-It was a job well done, a good performance, Moyes said on was frustrated we couldn’t kill them off because we had the same on Saturday, with a goal in the last minute. -Today we had that feeling around us, but if we had scored five or six today it wouldn’t have been out of place. We had an awful lot of opportunities and didn’t finish it off.Box edge-We gave away a couple of free-kicks on the edge of the box, and I was concerned about that. A couple of the decisions didn’t quite go our way tonight, but it was a good result. We had to win the game at home. The La Liga side made United work hard for the win but it was one they fully deserved despite some anxious moments, particularly when Antoine Griezmann hit the post with a first-half free-kick.last_img read more

Solskjaer in spotlight as Liverpool target Christmas No. 1 spot

first_imgLondon, United Kingdom | AFP | Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes charge of Manchester United for the first time this weekend as their on-fire rivals Liverpool aim to become the Premier League’s Christmas number one.Former United striker Solskjaer, named caretaker manager at Old Trafford this week following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, is gunning to make a statement on Saturday at Cardiff City, where he flopped as coach in 2014.At the top of the table, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have a chance to open up a four-point lead over Manchester City at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday, with Pep Guardiola’s team not in action against Crystal Palace until the following day.Third-placed Tottenham, five points behind second-placed City, face a tricky trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton while Chelsea host Leicester and Arsenal, smarting after Southampton ended their 22-game unbeaten run and League Cup defeat to bitter rivals Spurs midweek, welcome Burnley to the Emirates.AFP Sports picks out some of the main talking points ahead of the weekend fixtures in the Premier League. Can Solskjaer restore Man United magic?Manchester United’s rotating cast of players have failed dismally to live up to the club’s tradition of swashbuckling football in a dire season that led to Mourinho’s dismissal. All eyes will be on caretaker manager Solskjaer as he begins his attempt to turn around the club’s fortunes at Cardiff. Among the issues facing the Norwegian are bringing Paul Pogba back into the fold, liberating stifled attacking players and tightening up a leaky defence.Solskjaer, who managed Cardiff from January to September 2014, has a special place in the hearts of United fans and has talked about the “very talented squad”.Disgruntled supporters will not be expecting miracles but they will want to see an immediate change in style.Liverpool keep feet on the groundManchester City started the season as hot favourites to defend their Premier League crown but Liverpool have turned the campaign into a genuine title race.If Jurgen Klopp’s unbeaten leaders beat Wolves on Friday it would be their seventh league win on the bounce and guarantee them to be top of the table on Christmas Day.Each of the past four sides to be in front on December 25 have gone on to win the title, though Liverpool themselves were the last side to fail to do so, in 2013/14.Share on: WhatsApp Pages: 1 2last_img read more

Skiing is simple

first_imgYou stand balanced on the center of the turning ski and pressure it through the turn. At the end of the turn, you switch to the other foot and repeat. You do this on mellow slopes, on steep slopes, in open bowls, in trees, on sunny days and on days you can’t seek the forest for the snow. That’s it. You balance on a ski sliding down a hill.Skiing is simple.I’m only half jesting. Watch a great skier on the hill and notice how they seem to simply stand on their ski riding down the hill. In essence, they are doing just that. The trick to balancing lies in remaining centered and using the whole of the ski’s running surface against the snow. This holds true for any skier at any ability level.Think about it for a second. Running across the ice of a frozen pond, it’s hard to keep your balance. Try to make a quick turn and, boom, you’re down. Running across a field, it’s easy. Run across the same field when it’s wet and it’s easy until you have to turn or stop. Then you have same problems as on the pond. Not in the same extreme manner as on ice, but the control and effort to stay upright falls somewhere between the dry field and ice. If your runners have cleats, you grip the wet grass and turn with ease. If you put on a pair of skates to cross the pond, it’s a piece of cake. Zip.Think about the skates on the pond. It’s easier to skate when you engage the skates against the ice. Just wobbling along trying to stay upright is difficult. Push and glide, the effort returns a semblance of balance. You engage the skate blade with the ice. Stay balanced over the skate and you remain upright. Go too far forward or too far back and boom, you’re down. Plop. Sounds a lot like skiing.Sounds a lot like surfing and skateboarding too.Sounds like any athletic activity. To stay upright, you remain centered. You stay engaged in the action.Go back to a wedge. Find a mellow slope and make a few turns. Watch how to start the turn in a wedge, you have to engage the uphill ski early, before it starts to turn or move into the fall line. To be smooth, you stand on it evenly and glide the ski all the way through in big sweeping “C” shaped turns until it is running across the hill and then step on the other ski, the uphill ski and repeat the effort. As you ski along, still in a wedge, watch how easy it is to turn if you keep turning. In other words, stepping from one turn to the next like you are running down stairs. Never let the ski run in a traverse. Starting a turn out of a traverse becomes more difficult. Now speed up the turns. What happens?Your skis match, go parallel. The parallel turn is a natural extension of the wedge turn. When someone makes a wedge turn, they use the non-turning ski, the ski riding on the inside of the turn, for balance like training wheels on a bike. Once you stand comfortably on the turning or outside ski, you don’t need that inside ski for balance. The faster you go, the more the outside ski grips and the less you need the inside ski for balance. As on a bike, a certain amount of speed is your friend. Gravity pulls us down the hill. A turning ski is working against gravity and converting gravity into turning motion. The more turns you make, the slower  you go. More turns means more of the acceleration of gravity has been co-opted into turns.See. It’s really simple. Stand on the ski. Make lots of turns. Control your speed.Keith Liggett is a Fernie-based writer.last_img read more

International certification for SA dairy

first_img “This modern technology resulted in the exclusion of various steps in the production process, with subsequent cost savings and environmentally-friendly results.” The technology, known as OneStep, particularly allows for savings in water and energy consumption and improves production efficiencies. ISO 22000 FSSC was the first single standard to attain worldwide recognition. It was introduced in 2004 to guarantee safety systems in companies that process animal products, perishable vegetable products, products with a long shelf-life, food ingredients with additives, vitamins, bio-cultures and food packaging material manufacturing. “Since investing in the Coega IDZ, the dairy has produced exceptional results – from over delivering on environmental standards compliance, creating jobs and expanding operations – this accolade is another feather in the cap of one of our most successful investors,” said head of marketing and communications for the Coega Development Corporation, Ayanda Vilakazi. SAinfo reporter Coega Dairy is also unique in the country for its ultra-high temperature (UHT) processing plant. “We are the first dairy company to invest in a plant design that is significantly more efficient than conventional UHT milk processing solutions available in other South Africa plants,” the company said.center_img “To be the first South African dairy to receive the sought-after international ISO 22000 FSSC certification is an exceptional honour for us,” chief executive officer of Coega Dairy, Hennie Kleynhans, said in a statement. “Before certification we completed an audit for the ISO 22000 Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) accreditation, which required a paper trail and quality checks from the farmer to the household.” 3 October 2012 The Eastern Cape province’s eco-friendly Coega Dairy has become the first South African dairy to be awarded an ISO 22000 Food Safety System Certification, a sought-after international standard for food safety management, the company announced on Monday. Located in the Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) just outside Port Elizabeth, the dairy produces Coastal View UHT milk and butter and has the smallest carbon footprint of any dairy throughout the southern hemisphere. The Coega Dairy factory has also been certified as Kosher and Halaal.last_img read more
