The recruitment of the country’s No. 1 overall recruit appears to be heating up. Here’s the latest on where things stand.247Sports has a new update on the status of five-star Kayvon Thibodeaux, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2019 class.USC was believed to be the favorite to land the star defensive lineman, but that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore, according to a new report.A new favorite school has emerged, according to 247Sports’ recruiting guru Steve Wiltfong, and a couple of other schools are in the mix, too. Florida State now might be the frontrunner to land the five-star, according to Wilftong. Here’s the latest:A 6-foot-5, 235-pound pass-rushing force that lives in Thousand Oaks, California, Thibodeaux’s made visits to Oregon, Florida State and Alabama this summer. It’s important to also note that Thibodeaux (as you can tell from the last name) is originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, and has visited LSU. That said, he’s said in the past that location isn’t really a factor in his decision. Right now the 247Sports Crystal Ball is heavily in favor of USC at 73 percent, with FSU (13%) and LSU (7%) trailing. However, things might be shifting in his recruitment. Thibodeaux said earlier this year that he’d like to make a “late-summer” commitment.Wiltfong’s Read: “I’m hearing Florida State may be the leader for him with Oregon and LSU firmly in it. USC is obviously the Crystal Ball favorite and they’re not going to go away, but the feel is the other three right now.” (Read more of Wiltfong’s thoughts on Thibodeaux’s recruitment here).Thibodeaux is one of the biggest recruits college football has seen in years. He’s an instant-impact player for whoever lands him. It’d be a massive pick for the Seminoles’ 2019 class.Stay tuned.
